Economic Benefits For New York State

Job Creation

  • Now, New York tax payer dollars are promoting job growth and increasing revenue in states like Massachusetts, New Hampshire and even Wisconsin.
  • The project expands the Central-Leatherstocking Region’s strong health, social services and education sectors.
  • The project creates 112 new, high-quality, skill-based jobs.
  • Jobs created include teachers, aides, therapists, nurses, maintenance, direct care staff and administrators.
  • The project will add annually over $5 million in revenue to the region’s economy.
  • 80% of the new revenue will come from employee salaries and fringe benefits.

Delayed Payment

  • There is no up-front cost to New York State for this project.
  • This project is being financed with a 30-year bond, which will be paid off through an increase in the rate SED and OCFS pay us to care for our students.

Saving New York State Money – Keeping it In-State

  • Each year New York children remain in schools out-of-state, New York State sends millions of tax payer dollars to other states to cover their tuition and care.
  • After project completion, Springbrook’s tuition and maintenance rate will be less than 80% of out-of-state schools currently housing our children:

    Tuition & Maintenance

    Per student

    Total (for 24 students)

    Average Out-of State

    $     270,162

    $   6,483,888

    Springbrook Projected

    $     232,930

    $   5,590,320

    Annual Savings to New York State

    $       37,232

    $      893,568

    Total Savings  (over life of bond)

    $ 1,116,960

    $26,806,950

  • The money New York does spend to care for these children will remain in-state, where it belongs.
  • The money will fuel our economy, promote job growth and benefit the people who need it most.

 Construction Opportunities

  • Construction is expected to last 18 to 24 months.
  • Springbrook pledges to work with local vendors and contractors to the greatest extent possible.
  • For the planning and design, Springbrook has already worked exclusively with New York State-based architects, environmental engineers and a construction management firm.
  • Much needed construction opportunities for regional and state-based companies include (but are not limited to): site work, plumbing/septic, water systems, roadways/paving, asbestos/mold mitigation, house construction, school construction and interior renovations.

Cost Sharing

  • To date, Springbrook has invested $1.4 million of its own money in the project.
  • Springbrook is privately raising an additional $5 million for this project.
  • Donors have already pledged more than $3.7 million toward the campaign.
