1925 The Upstate Baptist Home for Children Orphanage
The Upstate Baptist Home for Children orphanage is founded in the White Building, which was the original farmhouse and included 95 acres.
1935 Chellis Nichols House
A small, brick educational and office building is erected next to the White Building and is known as Chellis Nichols House.
1966 The Upstate Home for Children and Adults
The name is changed to the Upstate Home for Children and Adults. The orphanage begins accepting students with developmental disabilities and Chellis Nichols becomes the first Community Home for adults, with 9 residents.
1976 Construction of the Residential School Building
A groundbreaking ceremony is held before construction starts on the School Building at the Upstate Home for Children and Adults on the Main Campus in Milford Center.
1979 Residential School Building is Completed
The Residential School Building is completed allowing the Upstate Home for Children and Adults to serve 72 students ages 5 to 21.
1993 The Kids Unlimited Preschool
The Kids Unlimited Preschool opens its doors on Main Campus. Kids Unlimited is the only integrated preschool program in Otsego County serving children ages three to five with and without developmental disabilities.
1996 Parker House
Parker House opens at the School at Springbrook, providing a home for 7 residential students.
1998 McDowell and Taylor Houses
McDowell and Taylor Houses open, providing homes for 8 students each.
1999 Penthouse
Penthouse opens at the School at Springbrook for 8 students.
2000Snell and Sunshine Houses
Snell and Sunshine Houses open for 8 students each, bringing the total number of residential students to 47.
2005SPRINGBROOK
Our name changes to SPRINGBROOK!
2006 Coming Home Campaign Launched
August 18, 2006
Paychex founder B. Thomas Golisano announces his $2.5 million dollar-for-dollar matching challenge grant at a press conference. His generous gift helps Springbrook launch its $5 million Coming Home Campaign to fund the School Expansion.
2006 School Within a School
Spring 2006 The idea of creating a School within a School for children with Autism is formed.
2010 Programmatic Changes (2006-2010)
The School at Springbrook makes programmatic changes in preparation for the arrival of new students. Changes include:
- Eliminating all 1:1 student to staff ratios, both residentially and educationally
- Hiring additional staff
- Establishing an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) model classroom
- Designated as a Hard to Place (HTP) school
Tom Golisano School
March 23, 2010 Final approval comes from New York State to proceed with the capital expansion on the Tom Golisano School at Springbrook.

September 21, 2010 Construction equipment starts arriving on Springbrook's Main Campus
2010 Excavation Begins
October 7, 2010
Excavation begins on Springbrook's Upper Campus, where three new residences will be built
2010 Renovations Begin
October 18, 2010
Renovations begin on the exterior of the School at Springbrook. Footings are started for the foundation on the first of the three new residences.
2010 First Foundation Completed
November 16, 2010
The foundation for the first of the three new residences is complete.
2010 Gym Foundation
November 29, 2010
Work starts on the foundation for the Gym at the school at Springbrook.
2010 Framing Begins
December 15, 2010
Framing starts on the first of the three new residences.
Work Classroom Foundation
December 27, 2010
Work starts on the foundation for the Classroom addition.
2011 New Residences
February 1, 2011
The three new residences will be framed and weather tight.
Work will start on the interior of the residences, including plumbing, heating and electrical and exterior siding will be installed.
Interior Trim
March 1, 2011
Interior trim work will start on the new residences.
New Kitchen and Cafeteria
Spring 2011
Construction on the new kitchen and cafeteria will be completed.
Residence Completed
June 1, 2011
The first residence will be completed.
Second Residence Completed
June 15, 2011
The second residence will be completed
Third Residence Completed
July 1, 2011
The third residence will be completed, bringing the total number of residential students at the Tom Golisano School at Springbrook to 72
Gym and Classrooms Are Ready
October 2011
The new gym and classroom additions will be ready for students to use.
