Therapeutic Horseback Riding
Students attending the residential school at Springbrook can participate in Therapeutic Horseback Riding. A local stable, just minutes from the main campus of the school, provides individual sessions to students. Students participate in in many ways including grooming the horses, riding the horses, feeding the horses and walking the horses. With the parents permission, students can attend one or more times per week.
Springbrook has offered this program for several years now. The
staff at the stable are certified therapists and really know how to
make the students comfortable. Students who participate in this
activity look forward to their sessions each week. It is rewarding
and amazing to see students become more and more comfortable
around such a large animal.
Yoga
Another activity students can participate in is Yoga. Yoga sessions are offered after school during the week. Many students participate in the yoga classes and receive individualized attention from the trainers. The individualized attention and calming atmosphere of the classes allows students to learn a variety of yoga positions. The students then create a routine by linking the yoga position together, one after another. Over a period of time, students learn their routine and become more independent in this activity, often doing yoga at the house as a chosen activity.
