Gardening is a powerful way to practice mindfulness and meditation. Having to care for plants is a good way to learn to look after and respect other living things, and it helps to develop our appreciation of the magic of nature. It doesn’t matter if we’re seven or seventy, gardening underlines that we are all nurturers. It serves as a gentle reminder that we are not the center of the universe, and keeps us connected to living things. It helps us relax and let go.

Even if you don’t have a yard, you can grow herbs or flowers in a sunny window, or put a flower basket by your door. This Meditation Monday, set some time for nature and do a little planting!
